Obesity Report

Obesity in America:

America is the leading country in obesity statistics. Many people in America have a bad diet.  60 million people in America are obese are at the age of 20. Nine million children and teens are obese in the USA as well.

Unhealthy diets:

Obesity is caused by eating too much junk food and not doing enough exercise. There’s a restaurant in America called the Heart Attack Grill where they sell burgers where they’re triple patties and quadruple patties in one burger. The spokesperson of the restaurant died from a heart attack.  A lot of American food is really unhealthy.

Problems from obesity :

Obesity causes major health problems like heart attacks, heart disease and diabetes. They can sometimes lose limbs because of the weight and the pressure on their joints. Obese people also have short breath when walking around the house and also have bad knee problems. Obese people do have a lack of mobility to move around because of their weight and size.  

Death from obesity:

The number of estimated deaths from obesity around the world is 300,000 deaths per year. Obesity causes a lot of people to have a shorter life time. People who are obese have to have bigger coffins that can hold their weight instead of a normal coffin. Obesity can affect life as well as death.

Conclusion:

An easy way to avoid becoming obese is to eat less junk food and exercising daily. Having a healthy diet will also help to avoid obesity.

Report Eggs

Eggs:

The egg is a big part in our daily diet which people eat two and half million a day. The egg is most known for its protein it also has a lot of different vitamins like vitamin A,D,E. Its yolk is the part of the egg which holds most of the nutrition while the white part only gives protein. There is also no difference between the white and brown. Most of our eggs are from caged hens. Other eggs are produced from free range eggs and barn eggs.

Caged Hens:

Caged hens have six hens per cage which means they only have room to stand, sit and turn around. The hens have never seen daylight and have never had a chance to run around. Caged hens are fed colouring agents to colour the yolk. Caged hens also have to eat a lot of calcium in their feed to keep their bones strong.

Free Range Eggs:

Free range hens have a lot more space and are fed with natural things like grass, bugs and worms. The hens are also able to dust bath, perch, run around and flap their wings. The farmer provides shade for the birds so that predators like Eagles won’t hunt them.   

Types Of Eggs:

Eggs can be scrambled, poached and boiled. Scramble is when the egg the egg is put in the pan with a cup of milk. Poached however you cook in water with salt in it and boiled is cook it in the shell of the egg in boiled water.

New Phone

As we headed into assembly I just remembered that Mrs Burt put out a competition in the holidays. That if children blogged their names would go into the draw to win a new phone. During the holidays my mum pushed me to do at least two posts. Very unexpectedly Mrs Burt drew out my name. I was half asleep when it happened. Lesieli won the first phone which was a Nokia and I won the second phone, a Samsung. I wanted to say thank-you to my mum for pushing me to post in holidays and to Telecom for donating the phones to our school. Thank You Mrs Burt as well for getting the prizes organised. I’m glad I’ve got a new phone because it’s a touch phone and now I can get rid of my old one - it’s a Samsung too.

Meeting An Amazing Person

Butterflies fluttering around waiting for the unknown guest to arrive. Today was the day that a celebrity came to our school and gave a anonymous donation to the Manaiakalani Trust. Cars were pulling up and lots of medium built guys were in tuxedos with each of them wearing earpieces. I was shocked when I found out who was coming. My mum knew but she wasn't allowed to tell me.

As the cars pulled up the guest came, it was WILL.I.AM he was the surprise visitor that was coming to give the donation. WILL.I.AM it was unimaginable to actually see him in real life. I greeted him with a simple “Hello” and shook his hand. As we headed into the hall everybody started to open their mouths in awe as WILL.I.AM entered. The cameras were blinding me as they all flashed.

After escorting him to his seat we walked back to sit down. Once our kapahaka and Hip Hop group finished performing, WILL.I.AM shared a very inspirational speech with us. He talked about how he grew up and his family were poor. He really wanted to help out his mum when he was younger. WILL.I.AM is a very humble man, he shows a lot of leadership skills in raising money for charity. He was also wearing some really cool boots.We finished the hour off singing to WILL.I.AM our school song Strive To Succseed.

Fortunately the whole school had left back to their daily routine again and the hall was almost empty. Interviews were everywhere, people asking WILL.I.AM questions. Some of the media people were interviewing prefects as well. I was interviewed five times by many well-known media like ZM radio station, Erin Simpson show and a bunch of other people. I didn't get a chance to see it on t.v or listen to it on the radio. However, lots of my friends and family me on the t.v again!

I think that WILL.I.AM is an amazing person. He has sold albums all over the world and one of his albums went platinum in New Zealand, he is associated with the Hallenstein Brothers which is incredible. Fiafia 2013

Fiafia, if you don’t know what that is, well it’s when our school cultural groups get together to perform. Our school has it every two years but this year we were lucky because our principal decided to take the stage out onto the field. I was really excited for Fiafia this year. This year was also a special year because it was the 60th anniversary for our school.

“Now you have to select the group that you want to be in this year, remember you have three choices” Mrs Langitupu (our teacher) instructed us. I know I couldn’t pick anything other group then my normal choice Niue because my mother always puts me in it. “Thursday is the day when you all leave to your practice” Mrs Langitupu said. Then the day arrived Thursday.

It approached really quickly the day for fiafia I felt really relaxed on the night. We all strolled to the courts everything so dark and people crowding around my body looking at everybody there looked like more than one-thousand or more people. Going to sit down at the row we were allocated I really started to feel the butterflies in my stomach fluttering around frantically. I really wanted to see the other groups perform their items. We were right after the Uni-Cyclers group.

My mind racing of the things that I should be doing as soon as the performance starts. The conch shell blew and it was all about to start. We started the item with the Hopo (jump), Ta me (action-song) and last was the Takalo (war dance). Once it was over I felt really thankful for everything that the tutors had done but now I just got to sit down and watch the other groups perform.

One of the groups that I really wanted to watch was the Barkerville factor group. Which I think they smashed a car and made beats. If I was to pick another group to, I would have been in the Cook-Island drumming group.

Break Away Holiday Program

“Welcome to the Breakaway Program the next few days I will be your coordinator and for those who don’t know me my name is Mua” he said. If you have nothing to do in the holidays you should head to Gladding Place for some fun. The first thing that we to do was get into four teams, our team leader was Junior. Our team name was ASAP MOB, I came up with that name. The other teams were Nacho Calves, Crood Knight and Team Hype.

Vienna (one of the team leaders) gave us multiple challenges which included team building. One of the first challenges we were tasked with the human knot. Human Knot means you grab someone’s hand opposite in your little group of people. You have to try and free your whole team in a perfect circle.  But the only rule was you weren’t allowed to let go of their hands. Unfortunately our team came last and we didn’t even finish.

My favourite part of the Holiday program was going to Turbo touch at one of the indoor sport center in Manukau. I really enjoyed playing Turbo touch. The rules are you are allowed to pass it in any direction you like, you only get two touches and you have to plant it in the goal line to score a try. In the finals for first and second it was ASAP MOB against Team Hype. We were leading in the first half 4-1 but we lost the lead and they one try it was 5-6.

Last day for Break away was pretty long and boring. We arrived at our destination, Hamilton Zoo. While roaming around at the Zoo we saw a lot of different animals like Tigers, Lima’s, Hunting dogs, Rhinos and we even saw some spider monkeys. The enclosures for each animal were pretty massive especially the Apes. On the way back, I fell asleep and my friends however tried to draw on my face but I covered up with my clothes.

Breakaway program was fun, new and exciting for me because I got to hang out with all my mates. I can’t wait to go back next holidays and I might see you there.

Term 1 Reflection

Term 1 is finally coming to an end and I can’t wait until the holidays. One of my highlights of the term were going to Tamaki Tech the group that I got put in was the graphics. Mr Pehnada has taught a lot about drawing and art. Over the past couple of weeks we started a project where we had to make up a restaurant name and make a restaurant box.

Another one of my highlights this term was Wacky Hair day, the prefects (including me) had a idea to make a special day where people bring wacky hair and we as prefects judge who had the best hair doo. “Okay anyone who is in years 3-4 please come up on the stage” a heap of little people walked up anxiously looking around the place. “Thank you for coming up now you can go and sit back down” I said my heart rate beating at an accelerating rate.

So over the term many exciting things have happened. But now the big thing that’s happening is Fia Fia is coming up and it’s going to be BIG! Each group has a unique things in everything, I’m in the Niuean group representing my culture. Fia fia will be at the end of the term on the very last day.

I think for next term my goal is I will try to get involved in more things and work harder in class time.
